Wylie Rogers Headed to ECHL Utah With Update
Wylie Rogers, the goaltender who just finished a terrific senior season for his hometown UAF Nanooks, has turned pro with the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL. (Rogers on Saturday made his pro debut, stopping 23 shots in a 43 loss at Pacific Divisionleading Utah. Rogers, who turns 23 Sunday, this season was a terrific backstop for a poor team. He went 9155 with a 2.61 goalsagainst average and .922 save percentage. He guided the Nanooks to a decisive third game in the first round of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs, and made 64 saves before UAF fell 21 in triple overtime at NebraskaOmaha on Sunday.
With the Grizzlies, Rogers hooks up with a former rival. Former UAA Seawolves goalie Nathan Lawson (1591, 2.91, .906), though, hasn't played since leaving a Feb. 2 loss at Fresno after two periods with what coach Jason Christie told the Fresno Bee was dehydration. Also on the Grizzlies is former UAA winger Justin Johnson.
